Editorial desk

A research process you can inspect.

The Vehicle Standard is published through an organizational research desk. Until individual contributor pages are introduced, the desk, not an invented persona, takes responsibility for sourcing, editing and corrections.

01

Record research

Researchers identify the exact model year, market, body, powertrain, drivetrain and trim, then attach the best available primary source to each material claim.

02

Configuration review

An editor checks that standard and available equipment remain distinct and that maximum claims retain their qualifying configuration.

03

Publication review

Pages are reviewed for directness, internal consistency, source access, update date and links to the governing methodology and corrections policy.

04

Correction review

Material corrections change the record and preserve a visible note. Questions that cannot be resolved are labeled instead of guessed.

What our byline means

Desk research, clearly labeled.

A research-desk byline means the work is based on manufacturer, government, testing-agency and other cited records. It does not imply that we drove, measured or personally inspected a vehicle unless an article explicitly describes that original testing.

The desk does not accept payment to change an editorial conclusion or sell followed links inside evidence citations.
