Commercial standard
A relationship cannot buy an editorial conclusion.
The publication may eventually earn revenue from advertising, sponsorships, referrals and data products, and every format, current or future, must preserve the same evidence standard: no partner can purchase a favorable comparison, rating, source citation or followed editorial link. Paid placements, affiliate relationships and client mentions are conspicuously disclosed with an appropriate sponsored or nofollow link relationship, and the disclosure sits beside the content it applies to rather than buried in a general terms page. Commercial staff may propose topics but cannot approve factual language, suppress a correction or condition payment on a ranking outcome. 4 common questions about this separation are answered below.
Separation rules
Label the relationship. Qualify the link.
Editorial citations are selected because they support a claim. Paid placements, affiliate relationships and client mentions are conspicuously disclosed and use an appropriate sponsored or nofollow link relationship. No partner can purchase a favorable comparison, rating, source citation or followed editorial link.
Dealership partners may contribute local market observations, inventory data or expert commentary when independently reviewed. Their role is identified beside the contribution, and publication is never guaranteed.
Commercial staff may propose topics but cannot approve factual language, suppress a correction or condition payment on a ranking outcome.
What this rules out, specifically
No purchased outcome, in any format.
This applies the same way to every current and possible future commercial format: display advertising, sponsored content, affiliate or referral links, data licensing, and any future partnership. A manufacturer cannot pay to have an unfavorable spec omitted. A dealer cannot pay to have a competitor’s page removed or altered. An advertiser’s presence on a page never affects which vehicles, trims or comparisons that page covers.
Where a commercial relationship exists on a page, the disclosure sits beside the content it applies to, in language a reader does not have to search for or interpret, not buried in a general terms page.
Can a manufacturer or dealer pay to change a spec, rating or comparison?
No. Every figure on this site traces to a government or manufacturer primary source, and no commercial arrangement can add, remove or reword a factual claim. Payment can buy disclosed placement (an ad, a sponsored callout); it cannot buy an editorial conclusion.
How would a sponsored placement be labeled?
Conspicuously, next to the placement itself, not in a footer disclaimer alone, using wording that identifies it as sponsored or paid, plus the appropriate `sponsored` or `nofollow` link attribute so the relationship is also machine-readable to search engines.
What happens if a correction is needed on content tied to a commercial relationship?
The same corrections process applies regardless of whether a page carries a sponsored element. See the corrections standard. A commercial relationship is never a reason to delay, water down or suppress a correction.
Does this site sell data products?
Not currently. If a data product (an API, a licensed export, a bulk dataset) launches in the future, this page will be updated to state its scope before it becomes available, following the same disclosure standard as any other commercial format.
