Owner-help topic
Driver assistance and infotainment: 10 decision guides.
Troubleshoot collision warnings, lane systems, cruise control, cameras, parking sensors, phone projection and key detection. The driver assistance and infotainment desk holds 10 of the site's 126 ownership guides: 5 rated soon, 5 rated routine. A reader in a hurry can jump straight to the escalation rule. One with more time can work through the evidence first, because each guide follows the same five-section sequence: what to check, the safe action sequence, what not to do, the escalation rule, and sourced references. 14 related owner-help systems covering other symptom groups are linked below for the adjacent conditions this one is most often confused with, and each guide's own source and reviewed date sit beside its escalation rule.

Forward-collision or automatic-braking system unavailable
Temporary unavailability often follows blocked cameras or radar, glare, weather, low voltage or calibration loss. Clean only the approved exterior surfaces and read the exact message; the base brakes still require normal driver control.
Lane-keeping assist does not detect lane markings
Lane systems depend on visible markings, camera view, speed, steering input and enabled settings. Construction zones, worn lines, glare and a dirty windshield can prevent operation without a hardware failure.
Adaptive cruise control unavailable or repeatedly cancelling
Adaptive cruise can cancel for blocked sensors, steep grades, poor visibility, brake temperature, stability-control activity, low voltage or a stored ADAS fault. The driver must take over immediately whenever the system requests it.
Blind-spot monitor gives false or missing alerts
Radar reflections, trailers, guardrails, weather, bumper repairs and sensor misalignment can change blind-spot behavior. The mirrors and a shoulder check remain the controlling lane-change method.
Backup camera shows a black, blue or intermittent screen
A blank rear-camera image can involve the camera, liftgate wiring, video link, display software or reverse-gear signal. Because rear visibility is safety-related, use direct observation and repair the fault, not relying on parking sensors.
Infotainment touchscreen freezes or keeps rebooting
A frozen display can result from software, corrupted phone pairing, low voltage, USB devices, heat or a failing module. Preserve version and error details before a reset that may erase useful evidence.
Apple CarPlay or Android Auto keeps disconnecting
Intermittent projection commonly traces to cable quality, contaminated ports, phone permissions, wireless interference or mismatched software. Test one known-good phone and cable before blaming the vehicle module.
Keyless entry or push-button start does not detect the key
A weak fob battery, radio interference, antenna fault, low 12-volt voltage or lost key registration can cause intermittent no-key messages. Use the manual’s emergency fob location before assuming the immobilizer failed.
Parking sensors beep continuously with no obstacle
Ice, mud, a license-plate frame, hitch equipment, body damage or one failed ultrasonic sensor can create a continuous alert. Identify whether the display isolates one zone before replacing a full sensor set.
Factory remote start does not work
Remote start is commonly inhibited by an open hood, low fuel, low battery voltage, active warning, valet setting, expired connected-service plan or too many prior cycles. The exact cluster message usually narrows the reason.

What owners report
Driver assistance and infotainment: complaints filed with NHTSA.
Driver-assistance and infotainment faults are the newest complaint group. Cameras and radar sensors behind the windshield and bumper cover need clean, clear surfaces and recalibration after a windshield or bumper repair. AAA's rain tests showed that 33 percent of test vehicles with emergency braking hit a stopped car at 35 mph in simulated rain, so a feature that switches off in bad weather is doing what it was designed to do.
Infotainment freezes are commonly cleared by a software update, which some manufacturers now deliver over the air.
Forward Collision Avoidance
Owners filed 9,303 complaints under forward collision avoidance across the model years 2019 and later in our records. The largest single model-year counts were Tesla Model 3 (2022), 532; Tesla Model 3 (2021), 407; Honda CR-V (2019), 298; Honda Odyssey (2019), 225.
