2022 Audi A5

Car and Driver (opens in a new tab) says the A5 lineup had a styling refresh the year before, so changes for 2022 are minor: the coupe and convertible use a 261-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a new 12-volt mild-hybrid setup, up from 248 horsepower, and standard all-wheel drive. Carvana (opens in a new tab) describes the year as a late-cycle version of the second generation, which ran from 2018 to 2024 in the U.S., with only light updates after the mid-cycle refresh. Car Buying Strategies (opens in a new tab) adds that the sport suspension became standard on both the coupe and the hatchback Sportback.

NHTSA lists two recall campaigns for the 2022 A5. 21V825000 is a back-over prevention camera campaign covering several Audi models including the A5 Sportback, and 22V806000 covers infotainment touchscreen problems on a long list of Audi models. Owners have filed 7 complaints with NHTSA: tires with 3, and power train, structure, wheels, forward collision avoidance and unknown or other with 1 each. Consumer Reports (opens in a new tab) rates the 2022 A5 about average for reliability compared with other cars from the same model year and counts three recalls, one more than the NHTSA list above.

Kelley Blue Book (opens in a new tab) lists the cheapest 2022 A5, the Premium coupe, at a Fair Purchase Price of $25,200, with trade-in values of about $20,000 to $27,500 and private-party values of about $23,500 to $29,200 depending on body style and trim. KBB lists city and highway ratings from 23/31 mpg to 26/34 depending on trim. The convertible is the thirstiest and the Sportback the most practical, so pick by body style before price.

EPA rates the 2022 A5 at 26 to 29 mpg combined and $2,650 to $3,000 a year in fuel. The 2022 BMW 4 Series rates 25 to 28 at $2,750 to $3,100, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class 22 to 29 at $2,650 to $3,500 and the Lexus RC 19 to 25 at $3,100 to $4,100. On EPA figures the A5 is the most efficient of the four and the only one sold solely with all-wheel drive.
