2025 BMW i4
The 2025 BMW i4 gets its first refresh: slimmer headlights, a new grille, two new colors and standard ambient lighting, with the same powertrains. The eDrive35 starts at $53,975 and the M50 at $71,875. NHTSA lists two recalls and 12 complaints. EPA rates it 80 to 116 MPGe with 227 to 318 miles of range.
What changed on the 2025 BMW i4
MotorTrend (opens in a new tab) says the compact i4 gets its first major refresh since debuting for 2022, with changes focused on cosmetic tweaks and infotainment refinement, and expects the same four powertrains as before. BMW Blog (opens in a new tab) calls it a subtle design refresh and the i4's first LCI, or mid-life cycle refresh, with narrower headlights and a new lighting signature and a reimagined grille as the most noticeable changes, two new colors, Cape York Green and Fire Red (Vegas Red in the U.S.), and some minor improvements inside.
A BMW Blog comparison with the pre-facelift car (opens in a new tab) adds that there are no performance changes, that the curved display carries over, and that matte Dark Graphite trim and ambient lighting along the dashboard are now standard, with new 19- and 20-inch wheel options.
Recalls and problems owners report
NHTSA lists two recall campaigns for the 2025 i4. 25V395000 covers 2022 to 2025 i4 and other BMW EVs, where the electric drive motor software may shut down the high-voltage system and cause a loss of drive power, fixed by a free over-the-air or dealer software update. 25V906000 covers a single 2025 i4 eDrive40 whose positive battery cable connection to the rear power distributor may become loose. Owners have filed 12 complaints with NHTSA, with forward collision avoidance, steering, wheels, power train and back-over prevention at 2 each.
Consumer Reports (opens in a new tab) rates the 2025 i4 about average for reliability compared with other cars from the same model year, and EV Seekers (opens in a new tab) says most reported issues are software and infotainment glitches rather than drivetrain failures, though some software faults have been serious enough for BMW to issue recalls.
What a 2025 i4 costs
Kelley Blue Book (opens in a new tab) lists a starting sticker price of $53,975 for the cheapest 2025 i4, the eDrive35 Gran Coupe, with a Fair Purchase Price of $49,700, and $71,875 for the range-topping i4 M50 Gran Coupe.
2025 i4 against the Model 3 and Ioniq 6
EPA rates the 2025 i4 at 80 to 116 MPGe with 227 to 318 miles of range and $650 to $950 a year in fuel. The 2025 Tesla Model 3 rates 109 to 137 MPGe with 298 to 363 miles at $550 to $700, and the Hyundai Ioniq 6 103 to 135 MPGe with 240 to 342 miles at $550 to $750. On EPA figures both rivals are more efficient and have longer maximum range than the i4.
