2023 Chevrolet Suburban
The 2023 Chevrolet Suburban is mostly the same as before, except that GM's Super Cruise hands-free driving becomes available on the Premier and High Country trims. Three recalls apply, and the most serious covers 6.2-liter V8 engine components that may be defective. Kelley Blue Book puts resale value at about $34,500, and the EPA rates it 16 to 23 mpg.
What changed on the 2023 Chevrolet Suburban
Car and Driver (opens in a new tab) says the 2023 Suburban is mostly the same this year, but GM's Super Cruise hands-free driving technology becomes available on the Premier and High Country trim levels. On this site's EPA data the Suburban comes with a 3.0-liter diesel six-cylinder, a 5.3-liter V8 or a 6.2-liter V8, in rear-drive and four-wheel-drive forms, and rates 16 to 23 mpg combined and $3,650 to $4,850 a year in fuel on fueleconomy.gov (opens in a new tab), against 20 to 22 mpg and $2,850 to $3,100 for the 2023 Toyota Sequoia, which has a hybrid.
Recalls on the 2023 Suburban
NHTSA lists three recalls, and Consumer Reports (opens in a new tab) counts four. 25V274 is the important one: it covers 2021 to 2024 GM full-size SUVs and trucks with the 6.2-liter V8 gas engine, where the connecting rod or crankshaft components may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure, increasing the risk of a crash. 23V642 covers a rear suspension outer control arm bolt that may not have been properly heat-treated and can break, misaligning the rear wheel. 22V903 covers daytime running lights that may not deactivate when the headlights are on, causing glare. If a 2023 Suburban has the 6.2-liter V8, confirm 25V274 was performed and ask the dealer what the remedy involved.
Complaints and what owners report
NHTSA holds 125 complaints on the 2023 Suburban: engine 66, power train 16, unclassified 15, electrical system 14, engine and engine cooling 9 and fuel and propulsion 6. Engine problems are more than half the total, and the engine recall above is the likely explanation, though NHTSA's complaint data does not name the engine size. Chevyguide (opens in a new tab) summarizes owner reports as a mix of infotainment glitches, fit-and-finish complaints and some drivetrain or ride concerns, and advises focusing on service records, software updates, tire condition, brake wear and whether the specific vehicle has had its early-life issues repaired.
What a 2023 Suburban is worth
Kelley Blue Book (opens in a new tab) puts a 2023 Suburban's resale value at $34,500 and its trade-in value at $30,800, in the 25th to 75th percentile for depreciation among 2023 SUVs.
