2018 Honda Accord
The 2018 Honda Accord is the redesigned tenth generation, with a sloping rear window, and the Accord coupe did not return. It has six recalls, including two for fuel pumps, and NHTSA holds 1,881 owner complaints. Early 1.5-liter turbo cars carry an oil-dilution risk, and Kelley Blue Book puts resale value near $14,250.
What changed on the 2018 Honda Accord
Car and Driver (opens in a new tab) reported the 2018 Accord's reveal: the coupe would not return, so the sedan was reshaped with a long sloping backlight to soften the blow, and the model was thoroughly redesigned with a reinvigorated chassis to take on the equally redesigned 2018 Toyota Camry. Car and Driver adds that the Accord has earned a spot on its 10Best Cars list 31 times and that it expects each new version to raise the bar. The lineup on this site's EPA data spans a 1.5-liter turbo, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a hybrid, from 26 to 47 mpg combined.
Recalls and complaints on the 2018 Accord
NHTSA lists six recalls. 20V314 and 23V858 cover fuel pumps across several Honda and Acura models, 20V771 covers a body control module software error on 2018 to 2020 Accord and Accord Hybrid, 18V629 covers the back-up camera display on the 2018 Accord, 23V158 covers front seat belt buckle assemblies on 2018 to 2019 Accords, and 26V332 covers an occupant classification sensor in the air bag system. The fuel pump recalls are the ones to confirm on a used car.
NHTSA holds 1,881 owner complaints on the 2018 model year: engine 554, forward collision avoidance 337, fuel and propulsion system 304, electrical system 292, service brakes 258 and unclassified 249. Those totals are large for a widely sold car. Autojunket (opens in a new tab) says there are no years to avoid for the tenth generation, but early 2018 1.5T models may have a higher chance of the oil dilution issue before software updates were widespread. Kelley Blue Book (opens in a new tab) rates a 2018 with 108,000 to 120,000 miles as a medium risk of major repair. On a used 1.5T, check the oil level and smell for fuel in the oil, and ask whether the software update was done.
What a 2018 Accord costs today
Kelley Blue Book (opens in a new tab) says a 2018 Accord has depreciated $3,601, or 20 percent, in three years, leaving a resale value of $14,250 and a trade-in value of $11,050. The EPA's fuel costs for the 2018 Accord run $1,350 to $2,400 a year on fueleconomy.gov (opens in a new tab) against $1,200 to $2,400 for the 2018 Toyota Camry, and 26 to 47 mpg against 26 to 52, so the two are close and the Camry's hybrid edges the Accord's efficient end.
