2019 Honda Accord
The 2019 Honda Accord is the second year of the tenth generation, with turbo fours instead of a V-6 and Honda Sensing standard. NHTSA lists six recalls, three for the fuel pump, and 784 complaints led by the engine. Consumer Reports rates it average; used prices start near $16,600, and EPA rates it 26 to 48 mpg combined.
What changed on the 2019 Honda Accord
Car and Driver (opens in a new tab) says that after the complete redesign for 2018, Honda made few changes to the 2019 Accord: every model has touchscreen infotainment on a 7.0- or 8.0-inch display, and the tenth-generation car dropped the earlier V-6 and naturally aspirated four for a pair of downsized turbocharged fours, with generally positive results and some criticism of interior storage and outward visibility. Kelley Blue Book (opens in a new tab) calls the standard 192-horsepower 1.5-liter turbo strong off the line, with a 33 mpg combined rating as its biggest advantage.
Hondaride (opens in a new tab) credits the redesign's success to the turbo fours, a longer wheelbase giving class-leading rear legroom, Honda Sensing as standard and a sleeker design, and notes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard on trims with the 8-inch screen, Sport and above.
Recalls and problems owners report
NHTSA lists six recall campaigns for the 2019 Accord, and three are the same underlying problem. 20V314000, 21V215000 and 23V858000 each cover a low-pressure fuel pump inside the fuel tank that may fail, with dealers replacing the pump assembly or module free of charge, the last campaign extended to 2013 to 2023 Accords and other Honda models. The others are 20V771000, a body-control-module software error that can intermittently disable functions such as wipers, defroster, rearview camera and exterior lights, 23V158000, a front seat-belt buckle channel that may interfere with the release button and stop the buckle latching, and 26V332000, a front passenger weight sensor that may crack and short, which could deploy the air bags unintentionally.
Owners have filed 784 complaints with NHTSA on this model year. By component, engine leads with 210, followed by forward collision avoidance with 174, electrical system with 123, fuel and propulsion system with 122, unknown or other with 101 and service brakes with 99. Consumer Reports (opens in a new tab) rates the 2019 Accord about average for reliability compared with other cars from the same model year, and CarFactBase (opens in a new tab) quotes owner complaints about engine misfire and a failed head gasket after a fuel-pump recall went unaddressed. Treat the complaint total as a signal about where to look, not a failure rate.
What a 2019 Accord costs today
Kelley Blue Book (opens in a new tab) lists the cheapest 2019 Accord, the LX sedan, at a Fair Purchase Price of $16,600, with trade-in values of about $12,600 to $17,200 and private-party values of about $14,850 to $19,850 depending on trim, and a Sport sedan near $18,510. KBB lists fuel economy from 22/32 mpg to 30/38 depending on trim. The fuel-pump recalls are the one thing that separates a good used Accord from a risky one, so confirm the work is done.
2019 Accord against the Camry, Sonata and Altima
EPA rates the 2019 Accord at 26 to 48 mpg combined (the top figure is the hybrid) and $1,300 to $2,400 a year in fuel. The 2019 Toyota Camry rates 26 to 52 at $1,200 to $2,400, the 2019 Hyundai Sonata 26 to 42 at $1,500 to $2,400 and the Nissan Altima 29 to 32 at $1,950 to $2,150, the Altima's being the only one here offered with all-wheel drive. Hondaride credits the Accord with class-leading rear legroom, and on EPA figures the Camry's hybrid, at up to 52 mpg combined, is slightly more efficient than the Accord Hybrid's 48.
