Kia EV6
The Kia EV6 is a compact electric crossover built since 2021 on the E-GMP platform. CarGurus says it omitted the 2024 model year from its recommendations because it has the lowest predictive reliability score Consumer Reports has shown recently, with owners reporting battery, charging and electrical issues, and warns that the integrated charging control unit (ICCU) recall is the biggest one that plagued the 2022 to 2024 model years. Federal data shows the 2022 with the most complaints (275) among the years on this site. The 2026 EV6 starts at $39,445.
What the Kia EV6 is and who buys it
Wikipedia (opens in a new tab) describes the EV6 as a compact crossover SUV made by Kia since 2021, on the Hyundai E-GMP platform with a 58-kWh or 77.4-kWh battery, built in Hwaseong, South Korea and West Point, Georgia, with GT-Line and EV6 GT variants and a facelift. The 2026 EV6 is rated 83 to 115 mpg-equivalent by the EPA, about $650 to $900 a year in fuel, and Kelley Blue Book base prices are $39,445 for the Light, $46,345 for the Wind and $54,545 for the GT-Line.
The ICCU recall and best and worst years
Federal data shows the 2022 EV6 with 4 recalls and 275 complaints, the 2023 with 4 recalls and 136 complaints, the 2024 with 3 recalls and 71 complaints, and the 2025 with none and 53 complaints.
CarComplaints (opens in a new tab) reported that more than 48,000 2022-2024 EV6 vehicles were recalled for Kia dealers to update the integrated charging control unit software and possibly replace ICCU components and fuses, and that federal safety regulators closed the ICCU investigation once the recall covered those 48,000 vehicles. CarGurus (opens in a new tab) says it omitted the 2024 model year from its recommendations because it has the lowest predictive reliability score it has seen recently from Consumer Reports, with owners reporting battery, charging and electrical issues, and that buyers of any of the affected years just need to be sure all four recalls have been addressed and pay particular attention to any repairs made to the ICCU, the biggest recall that plagued the 2022 to 2024 model years.
Choosing a year
Whatever model year you consider, confirm the ICCU recall has been completed, since it spans 2022 to 2024, and weigh CarGurus' caution about the 2024's Consumer Reports score against the federal complaint counts, which are actually highest on the 2022 among the years tracked here.

Q01Is there a best year to buy a Kia EV6?
Federal recall records don't single out a best Kia EV6 model year: recall counts across the 3 published model years checked here stay within a normal range of this nameplate's own average (about 3.7 recalls per year), with no year standing out as notably higher or lower. Recall count is one input, not a purchase verdict. It says nothing about a specific vehicle's price, mileage, accident history or maintenance record.
Q02What are common recall-related problems on the Kia EV6 by model year?
2024: electrical system. 2023: electrical system, powertrain. 2022: electrical system, parking brake.
