Nissan ARIYA

The Nissan Ariya is a compact electric crossover that Nissan builds on its AmpR Medium platform and has sold in the United States since the 2023 model year, with a facelift for 2026. It prioritizes comfort over sharpness, offers 65-kWh and 90-kWh batteries, and rates 90 to 101 MPGe on the EPA's 2026 numbers. The 2023 is the year to avoid on reliability scores, while the 2024 earned a Consumer Reports rating of much more reliable than other cars of its year.

What the Ariya is and who buys it

Wikipedia (opens in a new tab) lists the Ariya as a compact crossover SUV on Nissan's AmpR Medium platform, in production since January 2022, with US model years 2023 to 2025 and a facelift for 2026, using 65-kWh or 90-kWh lithium-ion batteries and a three-phase AC synchronous motor. EVMotorworld (opens in a new tab) says it suits family crossover buyers who want long-range comfort and strong home or destination AC charging without paying premium-badge money, and calls it a quietly strong family EV if ownership leans on home or destination charging. Carscoops (opens in a new tab) says the 2024 Ariya prioritizes comfort like few rivals, is easy to steer but perhaps not as sharp as some rival offerings, and that all its rivals outsold it by a notable margin in 2023.

Strengths and weaknesses

The strengths are comfort and a family-friendly cabin at a price below premium-badge rivals. The weakness reviewers name is charging speed: EVMotorworld says its 130 kW DC ceiling trails the latest 200 to 350 kW class leaders, so repeated long trips are less effortless than in the fastest-charging rivals. Carscoops says Nissan has a few significant opportunities to improve the EV. On the EPA's ratings the 2026 Ariya returns 90 to 101 MPGe and costs $750 to $850 a year in electricity, in front-drive and all-wheel-drive forms.

Best and worst Ariya model years

REREV (opens in a new tab) says the 2023 is the year to avoid based on reliability scores, NHTSA recalls and owner complaints, scoring 76 out of 100, the lowest of any Ariya year. The same site notes that Consumer Reports rates the 2024 Ariya much more reliable than other cars from the same model year and that it earned an IIHS 2024 Top Safety Pick rating for front- and all-wheel-drive versions with the 63-kWh battery. Vehiclefaults (opens in a new tab) makes the general point that a first year of a generation carries the launch teething faults, and that a final year is usually the best built. So a 2024 or 2025 Ariya is the safer used buy, and a 2023 should have every recall completed and its charging behavior tested. The individual model-year pages carry the recalls and complaints for each.

Engage is the only Ariya trim with the smaller 63-kWh battery; the '+' trims carry the long-range 87-kWh pack, and e-4ORCE dual-motor AWD is standard on Engage+ and Platinum+. Nissan paused all Ariya production for the U.S. market for the 2026 model year, reallocating plant capacity to the redesigned Leaf and citing import tariffs on the Tochigi, Japan-built Ariya. There is no new-build 2026 Ariya; what remains is existing dealer inventory only, and no decision has been made on a 2027 return.
