The 2024 Volkswagen Golf GTI carries over the 2022 redesign and adds a send-off for the manual: every manual gets the GTI 380 package with Graphite Gray paint, black 19-inch wheels and adaptive suspension. What changed on the 2024 Volkswagen Golf GTI
Car and Driver (opens in a new tab) says the 2022 redesign is still fresh for 2024, with only small cosmetic changes, and that as a send-off for the manual transmission every manual car gets a GTI 380 equipment package as standard: Graphite Gray paint, black-painted 19-inch wheels and an adaptive suspension. The top Autobahn trim pairs adaptive dampers with 19-inch summer tires, while 18-inch wheels are standard.
Kelley Blue Book (opens in a new tab) puts used 2024 GTIs at $25,000 for the S up to $32,600 for the 380 Autobahn from a dealer, and CarBuzz (opens in a new tab) lists an original MSRP of $31,965 against an average used price of $26,387 across 17 listings. Car and Driver quotes 25 mpg city and 34 highway for the automatic and 1 mpg less in each for the manual.
Recalls and problems owners report
NHTSA lists two recall campaigns for the 2024 Golf and GTI. 24V480000 and 25V103000 both cover software that may delay or deactivate the rearview camera image after shifting into reverse, and dealers update the infotainment software.
Owners have filed 40 complaints: service brakes with 12, unknown or other with 10, power train with 9, forward collision avoidance with 7 and back over prevention with 4. ProblemsByVin (opens in a new tab) lists the individual reports, including owners asking for a fix to brake behavior when starting uphill in a manual, and Consumer Reports (opens in a new tab) keeps a reliability page.
2024 GTI against the Civic and WRX
Car and Driver's 25/34 mpg for the automatic GTI is a different class of economy from the Subaru WRX, which EPA rates at 21 to 22 mpg combined and $3,500 to $3,700 a year. The Honda Civic family spans 24 to 36 combined at $1,750 to $3,250, with its sportier versions at the low end. The GTI sits between them, with front-wheel drive only.
