Alfa Romeo Giulia
The current Alfa Romeo Giulia is a compact luxury sports sedan that Motor Trend says competes with the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C-Class and Genesis G70, and the 2026 model has one core trim starting slightly above $48,000. Guides say to avoid the 2017 to 2019 launch years and that reliability improves from 2021, and the 505-hp Quadrifoglio is discontinued.
What the Alfa Romeo Giulia is
The current Giulia is a rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive compact luxury sedan. Motor Trend (opens in a new tab) says the 2026 Giulia competes with an ever-shrinking luxury compact sedan segment including the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Genesis G70, arrives with one core trim and a strong suite of standard equipment, and starts slightly above $48,000. The 2026 Giulia has a 2.0L four-cylinder and is rated 26 to 27 mpg combined by the EPA, about $2,850 to $3,000 a year in fuel. Note that Wikipedia's Giulia page covers three unrelated models, and the classic 1962 to 1978 Giulia is a different car.
Best and worst Giulia model years
REREV (opens in a new tab) says the problem years are well-documented: avoid the 2017 to 2019 launch window, land on a 2020 or newer, and you get most of the Giulia's appeal with far fewer headaches. CarGurus (opens in a new tab) says that with a tech upgrade and a mid-cycle refresh in 2020, the 2021 model year is where overall reliability starts to increase and recalls tail off, that the 2020 update brought a new standard 8.8-inch infotainment touchscreen and improved software reliability, and that dealers report warranty claims dropped significantly after 2020, with the 2022 to 2024 model years likely to be more reliable and have more standard features. CarsCounsel (opens in a new tab) publishes a year-by-year list. Open the 2017 Giulia page for the first year.
The Quadrifoglio
Motor Trend says the discontinued Giulia Quadrifoglio got to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds thanks to a Ferrari-derived twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 making 505 hp and 443 lb-ft. Carscoops (opens in a new tab) says it still mostly matches an M3 Competition despite an engine more than a decade old, but that its interior is barely passable for the price next to an M3 or C 63 S, and Driven (opens in a new tab) says its price now matches the equivalent M3's, so it is no longer a fair fight.
Questions buyers ask
Which Alfa Romeo Giulia years should I avoid?
REREV (opens in a new tab) says to avoid the 2017 to 2019 launch window and buy a 2020 or newer, and CarGurus says reliability starts to increase in 2021.
Is the Giulia Quadrifoglio still made?
Motor Trend calls the Quadrifoglio discontinued, and Driven says 2025 was tipped to be its final year of production.

Background and safety record
What public sources say about the Alfa Romeo Giulia.
Alfa Romeo Giulia is the name of three not directly related model (line)s from Italian carmaker Alfa Romeo. The first were the four-door Type 105 entry-level compact executive sports sedans produced from 1962 to 1978; the second are the updated (mainly up-engined) Spider, Sprint, and Sprint Speciale Alfa Giuliettas, and in 2015, Alfa Romeo revived the Giulia name, again for a compact executive car (type 952).
