Mercedes-Benz C-Class

MotorTrend says the C-Class is Mercedes-Benz's compact luxury sedan, long positioned as a gateway to the brand's lineup that blends S-Class-inspired features with sport-sedan dynamics to compete directly with rivals like the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4, describing it as a scaled-down S-Class that delivers big-car sophistication in a smaller footprint, though its steering and brake feel lack the precision driving enthusiasts may expect. MotorTrend says every C-Class features a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four paired with mild hybrid assistance, producing 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque in base C300 form and accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds in its testing, while the AMG C43 gains 14 additional horsepower for 416 hp total, and the AMG C63 S E Performance tops the lineup at 671 hp and 752 lb-ft of torque. MotorTrend says the 2026 model gains available 19-inch wheels at no additional cost, an optional AMG Lite Plus Package with 19-inch AMG wheels, a panoramic roof, and a rear spoiler, plus a Black Fine Structure center console, MBUX Entertainment Plus on the Pinnacle trim, and a standalone Surround View system option.

More luxury car than sports sedan

Car and Driver (opens in a new tab) says the C-Class is more successful as a luxury car than a sports sedan, though it attempts to be both, doing a surprisingly good job of imitating the much larger and pricier S-Class with a comfortable, modern, well-built interior, even as its suspension tune and steering system could use more work, ranking it #5 in Best Compact Luxury Cars behind the BMW 3-series, Genesis G70, BMW 4-series Gran Coupe, and Audi A5.
