2022 Audi S5
The 2022 Audi S5 is the performance version of the A5, and its only 2022 changes are newly standard carbon-fiber-look interior accents and 19-inch wheels in place of 18-inch ones. It has two recalls and almost no owner complaints, rates 23 to 24 mpg combined, and a used one starts around $34,900.
What changed on the 2022 Audi S5
Car and Driver (opens in a new tab) says the only changes to the S5 coupe and cabriolet for 2022 are newly standard carbon-fiber-look interior accents and 19-inch wheels, which replace the previously standard 18-inchers, and describes the S5 as the next step up in performance from the less powerful A5. Its Sportback review (opens in a new tab) calls the S5 Sportback largely unchanged for 2022 with the same two additions. MotorTrend (opens in a new tab) reports EPA ratings of 21/30 mpg city/highway for the Coupe and Sportback and 21/28 for the Cabriolet, and notes the RS5 was offered with new performance and styling packages. The larger wheels are the visible difference from 2021.
Recalls and complaints
NHTSA lists two recalls that reach the 2022 S5, both shared with other Volkswagen Group models. 21V825 covers a rearview camera sensing system fault on 2022 Audi A5 Sportback, A4, E-Tron GT, Q3, Q5, RS6 Avant, A3 Sedan and S5 vehicles among others. 22V806 covers an infotainment video fault across a group of 2021 to 2022 Audi models. VinSpectorAI (opens in a new tab) counts zero owner complaints and two recall campaigns for the 2022 S5, and CarFactBase (opens in a new tab) lists one complaint, so the complaint record is too small to read a pattern from. Kelley Blue Book (opens in a new tab) rates a 2022 S5 with 48,000 to 60,000 miles as a medium risk of major repair.
What a 2022 S5 costs today
Kelley Blue Book (opens in a new tab) says 2022 S5 pricing starts at $34,900 for the Premium Sedan, which had a starting MSRP of $56,270 when new, and that the range-topping Prestige Convertible starts at $43,300 today against $72,470 when new. Its depreciation page (opens in a new tab) says a 2022 S5 has depreciated $12,968, or 27 percent, in three years, with a resale value of $33,900 and a trade-in value of $29,900.
2022 S5 against the BMW 4 Series and Mercedes C-Class
The S5's 23 to 24 mpg combined and $3,250 to $3,350 a year in fuel on fueleconomy.gov (opens in a new tab) compares with 25 to 28 mpg ($2,750 to $3,100) for the 2022 BMW 4 Series and 22 to 29 mpg ($2,650 to $3,500) for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, which includes four-cylinder and mild-hybrid versions. The S5 has one engine, a 3.0-liter six-cylinder, and all-wheel drive, so its efficiency is a fixed number rather than a choice. The four-cylinder 4 Series and C-Class versions are the cheaper ones to fuel.
