Kelley Blue Book (opens in a new tab) puts used 2022 5 Series prices at $27,200 for the 530i to $43,300 for the M550i xDrive at a dealership. EPA rates the 2022 5 Series at 20 to 28 mpg or MPGe combined and $2,750 to $3,900 a year in fuel, with rear- or all-wheel drive.
Recalls and problems owners report
NHTSA lists four recall campaigns for the 2022 5 Series. 22V070000 covers a transmission mechatronics unit that may not have been assembled properly and could leak internally. 25V636000 and 26V056000 cover an engine starter or starter relay that can overheat and short circuit or catch fire, where owners of some vehicles are told to park outside until the starter is replaced. 26V525000 covers a driveshaft connection to the rear differential that may become damaged, possibly causing a loss of power to the rear wheels or vehicle rollaway.
Owners have filed 19 complaints with NHTSA: power train with 5, unknown or other with 4, and engine, back over prevention and forward collision avoidance with 3 each. Kelley Blue Book (opens in a new tab) keeps a common-problems page for the year.
