2025 BMW X4
The 2025 BMW X4 is a coupe-styled compact luxury SUV in three trims: the xDrive30i ($55,300), the M40i ($66,700) and the X4 M. Heated front seats became standard on the xDrive30i and M40i for 2025. One recall applies, for a cracked roof frame, and only four owner complaints are on file. A used one averages about $47,950.
What changed on the 2025 BMW X4
The X4 stays close to the previous year. MotorTrend (opens in a new tab) lists the 2025 changes as standard heated front seats on the xDrive30i and M40i, remote start standard in the Convenience package on the xDrive30i and the Premium packages on the xDrive30i and M40i, and optional Black Vernasca leather with contrast stitching. Car and Driver (opens in a new tab) confirms that BMW gave every X4 heated front seats for 2025. The rest of the equipment is returning content: 12.3-inch gauge cluster and infotainment displays, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air updates, a Wi-Fi hot spot and 12 speakers.
Three trims are offered. The base xDrive30i is the only one with the 2.0-liter engine, with 19-inch wheels, chrome tailpipes and satin aluminum exterior trim. The M40i moves to the 3.0-liter six-cylinder, 19-inch wheels on run-flat tires, Shadowline exterior trim and an aerodynamic kit, while the X4 M sits above it with carbon-fiber interior trim and velour cargo carpeting.
Recall and complaints on the 2025 X4
NHTSA lists one recall, campaign 24V910, covering 2025 X4 xDrive30i, M40i and M models. The inner-left roof frame near the head air bag may have a crack that can damage the head air bag when it deploys. Dealers inspect the frame and repair it if necessary at no charge, and BMW mailed owner notification letters in January 2025. The four owner complaints on NHTSA's file are two electrical, two engine and one unclassified, too few to show a pattern. Kelley Blue Book (opens in a new tab) rates vehicles at 24,000 to 36,000 miles as a low risk of major repair, and Vehiclefaults (opens in a new tab) notes that a year-old X4 has typically covered about 13,500 miles.
For older X4s, Bimmerboom (opens in a new tab) reports worn bushings, failing struts and air suspension problems where fitted, along with transmission problems and electrical glitches. None of those show up on 2025 cars yet, but the warranty is what you are buying with a nearly new example, so keep the service records that keep it valid.
What a 2025 X4 costs
CarBuzz (opens in a new tab) lists the xDrive30i at a $55,300 MSRP and the M40i at $66,700, and averages $47,950 across 282 used listings, roughly $7,000 under the base sticker. CarEdge (opens in a new tab) projects a 51 percent loss over five years on a typical $64,075 selling price, a five-year resale value of $31,608 and a three-year depreciation cost of $6,100. A one- or two-year-old X4 usually carries part of the factory warranty and costs less than a new one, which Car and Driver notes as the argument for buying used.
2025 X4 against the Mercedes GLC Coupe and Audi Q5 Sportback
The X4's EPA combined ratings run 17 to 24 mpg with an annual fuel cost of $3,250 to $4,550 on fueleconomy.gov (opens in a new tab). The 2025 Audi Q5 rates 25 to 26 mpg ($3,000 to $3,100 a year) and the Mercedes-Benz GLC 20 to 27 mpg ($2,850 to $3,900 a year, including a plug-in hybrid), so at the top of its range the X4 costs about $1,450 a year more to run than a Q5.
On price the field is close. Car Chomper (opens in a new tab) lists the Q5 Sportback from $52,200 and the GLC Coupe from $59,300, against $55,300 for the xDrive30i. Car Chomper credits the Q5 Sportback with the lower entry price and better cargo utility than the GLC Coupe, and the GLC Coupe with more torque and a sleeker roofline, and Mercedes sells it with a plug-in hybrid. The X4 is the choice if you want the six-cylinder M40i as a driver's car and are willing to pay for the fuel.
