Recalls and problems owners report
NHTSA lists 6 recall campaigns for the 2015 X5. 14V650000 covers a rear seat belt attachment weld on the optional rear comfort seat, 15V147000 the head protection air bag connection, and 16V683000 a driver's air bag inflator that may have been improperly welded. The other three cover diesel emissions control and fuel system parts (18V755000, 21V586000 and 21V907000).
Owners have filed 152 complaints: engine with 42, fuel and propulsion system with 30, fuel system with 20, diesel with 20, unknown or other with 19 and power train with 14. Kelley Blue Book (opens in a new tab) keeps a common-problems page for the year.
2015 X5 against the X6
EPA rates the 2015 X5 at 17 to 27 mpg combined and $3,300 to $4,550 a year in fuel. The 2015 X6, which shares its platform, lists 17 to 22 mpg combined and $3,500 to $4,550, so the X5's diesel gives it the better top-end figure.
