What the Chevrolet Corvette is
Wikipedia (opens in a new tab) describes the Corvette as a line of American two-door, two-seater sports cars made and marketed by General Motors under the Chevrolet marque since 1953, in coupe and convertible forms, across eight generations indicated C1 to C8. The 2026 Corvette is offered with a 6.2L V8 in the Stingray and a 5.5L V8 hybrid in the E-Ray, rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, rated 14 to 19 mpg combined by the EPA, about $4,100 to $5,550 a year in fuel. Kelley Blue Book base prices run from $72,495 for the Stingray to $91,245 for its top trim, and $111,095 to $116,595 for the E-Ray.
Best and worst Corvette model years
Federal counts put the recall weight at the start of this range. The 2015 has 5 recalls covering air bags, the parking brake and suspension with 64 complaints, the 2016 has 2 and 103, the 2017 has 4 recalls and 255 complaints, the most of any year, and the 2020 has 4 recalls covering seat belts, the electrical system, door latches and brakes. The 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023 have one recall each, and the 2024 and 2025 have 2 and 3. Open the 2017 Corvette and 2020 Corvette pages.
Engine Patrol (opens in a new tab) lists the worst model years as 2005 to 2009, 2000 to 2004, 2017 and 2019. Car Smite (opens in a new tab) sorts every year from 1997 to 2024 into excellent, neutral and worst categories, by generation.
Choosing a year
The 2017 and 2019 are the two years both federal data and Engine Patrol single out among recent cars, though the 2019's one recall is small. The current cars have 1 to 3 recalls a year, so a VIN check for the fuel system and seat belt campaigns covers most of the risk.

Method: recall counts and their affected components come from the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation: Recalls API, queried by exact make, model and model year. Complaint counts come from the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation: Complaints API, same query pattern. Data pulled 2026-09-04.
Known gap: the NHTSA complaints API did not return data for Chevrolet Corvette model year 2025 when queried for this page: the request itself failed upstream, not returning a genuine zero. Those years are marked "not available" above instead of shown as clean; recall counts for those years are unaffected and come from the separate recalls API, which returned data for every year listed.
Check open recalls by VIN for one particular vehicle.
Q01Is there a best year to buy a Chevrolet Corvette?
Recall count alone can't answer that: it says nothing about a specific vehicle's price, mileage, accident history or maintenance record. What federal data can say: 2015 carried more. See the model-year table on this page for the exact counts and what they cover.
Q02Which Chevrolet Corvette model years should I watch for recalls?
The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette has 5 federal recalls on file, most commonly affecting airbags, parking brake, suspension. Always confirm the open/completed status of every campaign for the specific VIN: a recall on this list may already be repaired on the vehicle in front of you.
Q03What are common recall-related problems on the Chevrolet Corvette by model year?
2025: seat belts, fuel system, exterior lighting. 2024: seat belts, fuel system. 2023: fuel system. 2022: powertrain. 2021: airbags, powertrain. 2020: seat belts, electrical system, door latches, brakes.
Q04Why do some Chevrolet Corvette model years show "not available" for complaints?
The NHTSA complaints API did not return data for Chevrolet Corvette model year 2025 when queried for this page: the request itself failed upstream instead of the count genuinely being zero. Recall counts for those years are unaffected; they come from a separate NHTSA endpoint that returned data for every year listed.
