2020 Chevrolet Suburban
The 2020 Chevrolet Suburban is the final year of its generation before the all-new 2021 model, with minor updates and used prices from $18,800 at Kelley Blue Book. NHTSA lists four recalls, including a fuel pump pressure regulator and an ABS software fault, and 44 complaints. EPA rates it 16 to 18 mpg combined.
What changed on the 2020 Chevrolet Suburban
GM Authority (opens in a new tab) says the all-new 12th-generation Suburban launches for the 2021 model year rather than 2020, so the 11th-generation model lives one more, final model year with a few minor changes: the Pepperdust Metallic color is deleted and some 22-inch wheels get new finishes. Its changes page (opens in a new tab) lists new finishes for the 22-inch gloss black and bright machined aluminum wheels.
Kelley Blue Book (opens in a new tab) puts used 2020 Suburbans at $18,800 for the LS to $28,800 for the Premier at a dealership, and rates fuel economy at 14/21 to 15/22 mpg city and highway. EPA rates the 2020 Suburban at 16 to 18 mpg combined and $3,450 to $4,850 a year in fuel, with rear- or four-wheel drive.
Recalls and problems owners report
NHTSA lists four recall campaigns for the 2020 Suburban. 19V837000 covers a fuel pump missing a pressure regulator, which allows over-pressurization of the fuel system, and GM replaces the pump. 19V761000 covers 2015 to 2020 Suburban, Tahoe and Yukon models with a 5.3-liter engine, 3.08 rear axle and four-wheel drive, where a failed wheel-speed sensor could cause brake control software to activate the brakes unexpectedly. 21V115000 covers tires that were cured for too long during production, with inspection and replacement as necessary.
Owners have filed 44 complaints with NHTSA: engine with 17, power train with 10, electrical system with 8, and unknown or other and steering with 4 each. Kelley Blue Book (opens in a new tab) keeps a common-problems page for the year.
2020 Suburban against the Expedition, Sequoia and Yukon
EPA rates the 2020 Suburban at 16 to 18 mpg combined and $3,450 to $4,850 a year in fuel. The GMC Yukon lists the same 16 to 18 and $3,450 to $4,850, the Ford Expedition 18 to 19 at $3,300 to $3,450, and the Toyota Sequoia 14 to 15 at $4,150 to $4,450. The Suburban is ahead of the Sequoia and behind the Expedition.
