What the Honda Prologue is

Wikipedia (opens in a new tab) describes the Prologue as a mid-size crossover SUV from Honda and General Motors, in production since January 2024 with model years from 2024, assembled at Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, Mexico on the GM BEV3 platform. The 2026 Prologue is rated 95 to 104 mpg-equivalent by the EPA, about $750 to $800 a year in fuel, and Kelley Blue Book base prices are $48,895 for the EX, $53,195 for the Touring and $59,395 for the Elite. CarEdge (opens in a new tab) compares it with electric offerings from Hyundai, Kia, Toyota and Tesla, and says that for over $50,000 buyers should expect the latest and greatest technology.

Best and worst Prologue model years

Federal data lists 3 recalls on the 2024 Prologue, covering the backup camera and suspension, and 1 on the 2025. VinSpectorAI (opens in a new tab) names the 2024 the worst year by complaints, with 824, while cautioning that newer years have had less time to collect reports. REREV (opens in a new tab) says Consumer Reports rates the 2024 as much less reliable than other cars from its model year, and that the Prologue is worth buying as long as you avoid the 2024 or go in with eyes open on its three active recalls and documented CV axle issues. CarComplaintData (opens in a new tab) says the 2025 represents the best year to buy, with software improvements and resolved early production issues.

Choosing a year

All three guides point the same way: buy a 2025 or later. If you buy a 2024, confirm by VIN that the backup camera, suspension and CV axle work has been done.

Background and safety record

What public sources say about the Honda Prologue.

The Honda Prologue is a battery electric mid-size crossover SUV jointly developed by Honda and General Motors and marketed in North America by Honda. Announced in October 2022 with sales starting in March 2024, it is Honda's first major electric vehicle following a number of low volume battery electric vehicles previously sold by Honda in North America, including the Honda Clarity, Honda Fit, and the experimental Honda EV Plus.

Trim levels
In the US market, the Prologue comes in three trims: EX, Touring and Elite. EX is available in both front and all-wheel drive, and has black or light gray cloth seating surfaces with a 10-way power driver's seat, and comes with 19-inch wheels.
Powertrain
The Prologue is offered in either single-motor front-wheel drive or dual-motor all-wheel drive configurations. The front is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous AC motor that makes 212 hp (158 kW; 215 PS) and 236 lb⋅ft of torque.

Method: recall counts and their affected components come from the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation: Recalls API, queried by exact make, model and model year. Complaint counts come from the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation: Complaints API, same query pattern. Data pulled 2026-09-04.

Known gap: the NHTSA complaints API did not return data for Honda Prologue model years 2024, 2025 when queried for this page: the request itself failed upstream, not returning a genuine zero. Those years are marked "not available" above instead of shown as clean; recall counts for those years are unaffected and come from the separate recalls API, which returned data for every year listed.

Q01Is there a best year to buy a Honda Prologue?

Federal recall records don't single out a best Honda Prologue model year: recall counts across the 2 published model years checked here stay within a normal range of this nameplate's own average (about n/a recalls per year), with no year standing out as notably higher or lower. Recall count is one input, not a purchase verdict. It says nothing about a specific vehicle's price, mileage, accident history or maintenance record.

Q02What are common recall-related problems on the Honda Prologue by model year?

2025: backup camera. 2024: backup camera, suspension.

Q03Why do some Honda Prologue model years show "not available" for complaints?

The NHTSA complaints API did not return data for Honda Prologue model years 2024, 2025 when queried for this page: the request itself failed upstream instead of the count genuinely being zero. Recall counts for those years are unaffected; they come from a separate NHTSA endpoint that returned data for every year listed.
