2027 Hyundai Ioniq 9

The 2027 Hyundai Ioniq 9 is a three-row electric SUV in its second model year, mostly unchanged apart from a new AWD Performance Calligraphy Black Ink edition. Every version is rated at 300 miles or more, up to 335 miles for the rear-drive S. The 2026 model had three recalls, so check the VIN on any 2027.

What changed on the 2027 Ioniq 9

Car and Driver (opens in a new tab) says the Ioniq 9, introduced for 2026, rolls into 2027 mostly unchanged, and CarsDirect (opens in a new tab) says Hyundai is making no major changes to the exterior design. The big news is the trim: MotorTrend (opens in a new tab) says it is the 2027 AWD Performance Calligraphy Black Ink, which it describes as completely loaded and blacked out. CarGurus (opens in a new tab) adds Abyss Black Pearl paint, a black chrome front skid plate, gloss-black roof rails and blacked-out window molding, dual 12.3-inch screens, and a 110.3-kWh battery that should give the same 311 miles as the 2026 Calligraphy, with an 800-volt system that charges from 10 to 80 percent in about 24 minutes.

Car and Driver lays out the lineup: a 215-hp single-motor rear-drive model anchors it at an estimated 335 miles, and a two-motor all-wheel-drive version comes in 303-hp and 442-hp strengths with estimated ranges of about 320 and 311 miles. The EPA's 335-mile figure belongs to the S RWD on 19-inch wheels, so the range you get depends on which drivetrain and wheels you choose.

Recalls to check on an Ioniq 9

No recalls or complaints are recorded against the 2027 model year yet, but the 2026 Ioniq 9 has three, and the 2027 shares the underlying components. Campaign 26V068 says the high-voltage battery system may contain an improperly tightened bus bar that can short-circuit. Campaign 26V314 says the rear suspension fasteners may loosen and detach, which can result in a loss of vehicle control. Campaign 26V588 covers second-row power seats on Limited, Calligraphy and Calligraphy Design trims that may fail to detect a person and keep moving. EvSeekers (opens in a new tab) says the seat recall is the one problem with a clear owner-complaint trail: Hyundai knew of five consumer complaints, including two alleged minor injuries, when it decided to recall on September 2, 2026, and it expects the 2027 to share the 2026's components.

Recalls are decided by build date, so the VIN lookup at nhtsa.gov/recalls is the only check that matters, and the second-row power seats are worth testing with a person or child in reach before you sign.

What an Ioniq 9 costs

Hyundai has not announced a price for the 2027 Calligraphy Black Ink, CarGurus (opens in a new tab) notes that the 2026 Ioniq 9 Calligraphy starts at $76,590 including a $1,600 destination fee, and it expects the Black Ink to mirror the Calligraphy Design's cost with a possible price bump. Running costs are modest: the EPA rates it 85 to 92 MPGe at $850 to $900 a year on fueleconomy.gov (opens in a new tab).

2027 Ioniq 9 against the Kia EV9 and Rivian R1S

MotorTrend (opens in a new tab) says the Ioniq 9 competes with the Kia EV9 and, in a higher price class, the Rivian R1S, and that every 2027 Ioniq 9 has an EPA range of at least 300 miles. The Rivian R1S rates 67 to 85 MPGe and $900 to $1,150 a year, so the Ioniq 9 is more efficient and costs less to run. The Kia EV9 is the closest comparison since it shares Hyundai's electric platform; check its range and recall record beside the Ioniq 9's before deciding. MotorTrend's verdict is that it is one of the best SUVs at any price, and that the pros of an electric three-row usually outweigh the cons.

Record summary

What to know first

The single-motor S is RWD at 215 hp; SE steps up to dual-motor AWD at 303 hp; SEL, Limited and Calligraphy share the higher 422-horsepower AWD tune. MY2027 is otherwise an unchanged carryover with one new special edition added.

Model-year note

Output rises across three distinct tiers, not gradually by trim, so output depends on which of the three power bands a given trim falls into. The 2027 model adds a single high-end special edition, an AWD Performance Calligraphy 'Black Ink' trim with Abyss Black Pearl paint and blacked-out exterior accents (black chrome skid plate and rear garnish, gloss-black roof rails, black window moldings, black emblem, black 21-inch wheels), with no other exterior or interior changes for the model year.
