Hyundai Venue
The Hyundai Venue is a subcompact crossover made since 2019 with U.S. model years from 2020. REREV says to avoid the 2020, whose debut year brought stalling problems, infotainment glitches and a seat belt recall, and to verify that recall on any 2021 or 2022. The 2026 Venue starts at $22,150 and is rated 31 mpg combined.
What the Hyundai Venue is
Wikipedia (opens in a new tab) describes the Venue as a subcompact crossover SUV made by Hyundai since 2019, front-wheel drive, that was the smallest global crossover from Hyundai until smaller SUVs such as the Casper arrived in 2021. The 2026 Venue has a 1.6L four-cylinder rated 31 mpg combined by the EPA, about $2,000 a year in fuel, and Kelley Blue Book base prices are $22,150 for the SE and $24,200 for the SEL. REREV (opens in a new tab) calls it one of the most affordable subcompact crossovers on the market and a solid used-car buy for most shoppers.
Best and worst Venue model years
Federal data lists 1 recall on the 2020 Venue for seat belts, with 42 complaints, the most of any year, 2 seat belt recalls and 28 complaints on the 2021, and 1 seat belt recall on the 2022. The 2023 has none, the 2024 has one for engine cooling and the 2025 has none and 4 complaints.
REREV (opens in a new tab) says the Venue is worth buying as long as you avoid the 2020 model year and verify the seat belt recall on any 2021 to 2022 you consider. CarGurus (opens in a new tab) rates the 2022 the second-worst year because of Consumer Reports' low owner satisfaction score, and says CarComplaints.com dubs another year the worst to buy due to interior problems. GearTechGuy (opens in a new tab) is the outlier, saying most experts and trackers point at 2024 as the lone avoid year.
Choosing a year
The guides disagree about which single year is worst, but the seat belt recall on 2020 to 2022 cars is the one campaign to confirm by VIN.

Background and safety record
What public sources say about the Hyundai Venue.
The Hyundai Venue is a subcompact crossover SUV manufactured by South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 2019. It was the smallest global crossover from Hyundai until the introduction of other smaller SUVs such as the Casper (in 2021) and Exter (in 2023). The Venue was not marketed in Europe (except Ukraine) in favor of the European-focused, Hyundai i20-based Bayon, which was first introduced in 2021.
- Safety
- In 2021, the IIHS awarded the Hyundai Venue a Top Safety Pick Key award, and the NHTSA rated it at four out of five stars for safety, with one star deducted due to rollover and front risk ratings of four stars.
- Exterior
- At the front, it features a wider, squarer grille with horizontal slats, paired with vertically stacked LED headlamps and slim DRL strips. For the side profile and the rear, it includes rugged wheel arch cladding, newly designed alloy wheels, connected LED taillights, and a blacked-out shark-fin antenna.
- Interior
- In the interior and its technology, displays were upgraded with dual 12.3-inch curved panoramic screens combining the digital cluster and infotainment system. The cabin comfort adds a 2-step reclining function for rear seats, rear window sunshades, rear AC vents, and dual-tone leatherette upholstery.
- Platform
- Unlike its predecessor, the second-generation Venue uses the "reinforced" K1 platform, shared with a variety of other small Hyundais and Kias, including the Syros.

Q01Is there a best year to buy a Hyundai Venue?
Federal recall records don't single out a best Hyundai Venue model year: recall counts across the 4 published model years checked here stay within a normal range of this nameplate's own average (about 1.3 recalls per year), with no year standing out as notably higher or lower. Recall count is one input, not a purchase verdict. It says nothing about a specific vehicle's price, mileage, accident history or maintenance record.
Q02What are common recall-related problems on the Hyundai Venue by model year?
2024: engine cooling. 2022: seat belts. 2021: seat belts. 2020: seat belts.
