Jeep Wrangler
MotorTrend says Jeep revives its big-bore brute with the 2026 Wrangler Moab 392, reuniting the iconic SUV with a 470-hp 6.4-liter Hemi V8, calling it a Wrangler that pushes the boundaries of performance and efficiency while staying true to the core image of a go-anywhere, four-wheel-drive SUV. Carscoops calls the 2026 Jeep Wrangler unapologetically old-school against a sea of quiet, cushioned, tech-heavy crossovers, titling its review of the 392 'A Muscle Car That Can Rock Crawl,' and separately says everyone else built a better SUV, but Jeep built a better 2026 Wrangler Rubicon. Car and Driver says the Moab 392 is essentially a rebadged version of last year's Rubicon 392, but it sports unique decals and a removable top painted to match the Wrangler's body color.

Background and safety record
What public sources say about the Jeep Wrangler.
The Jeep Wrangler is a series of compact and mid-size off-road SUVs manufactured by Jeep since 1986, and currently in its fourth generation. The Wrangler JL, the most recent generation, was unveiled in late 2017 and is produced at Jeep's Toledo Complex. The Wrangler is a direct progression from the World War II Jeep, through the CJ (Civilian Jeeps) produced by Willys, Kaiser-Jeep, and American Motors Corporation (AMC) from the mid-1940s through the 1980s.
- Models
- The Wrangler debuted in 1986 as a new model after the discontinuance of the Jeep CJ series. It was revised in 1996, and completely redesigned in 2006. In addition to the model's name Wrangler, each model received a designation corresponding to its generation: YJ, TJ, JK, and the current JL model.

Method: recall counts and their affected components come from the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation: Recalls API, queried by exact make, model and model year. Complaint counts come from the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation: Complaints API, same query pattern. Data pulled 2026-09-04.
Known gap: the NHTSA complaints API did not return data for Jeep Wrangler model years 2024, 2025, 2026 when queried for this page: the request itself failed upstream, not returning a genuine zero. Those years are marked "not available" above instead of shown as clean; recall counts for those years are unaffected and come from the separate recalls API, which returned data for every year listed.
Check open recalls by VIN for one particular vehicle.
Q01Is there a best year to buy a Jeep Wrangler?
Recall count alone can't answer that: it says nothing about a specific vehicle's price, mileage, accident history or maintenance record. What federal data can say: 2026, 2015 carried fewer recalls than this model's own average, while 2022, 2021 carried more. See the model-year table on this page for the exact counts and what they cover.
Q02Which Jeep Wrangler model years should I watch for recalls?
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler has 15 federal recalls on file, most commonly affecting electrical system, fuel system, powertrain; The 2021 Jeep Wrangler has 15 federal recalls on file, most commonly affecting powertrain, electrical system, backup camera. Always confirm the open/completed status of every campaign for the specific VIN: a recall on this list may already be repaired on the vehicle in front of you.
Q03Which Jeep Wrangler model years have the cleanest federal recall record?
The 2026 Jeep Wrangler has 3 recalls on file; The 2015 Jeep Wrangler has 3 recalls on file: below this model's own average of 9.2. A shorter list on file as of this page's data pull is not a guarantee against a future recall.
Q04What are common recall-related problems on the Jeep Wrangler by model year?
2026: child seat, wheels, backup camera. 2025: tires, electrical system, backup camera, steering. 2024: electrical system, exterior lighting, backup camera, visibility/wipers. 2023: electrical system, powertrain, engine, fuel system. 2022: electrical system, fuel system, powertrain, exterior lighting. 2021: powertrain, electrical system, backup camera, fuel system.
Q05Why do some Jeep Wrangler model years show "not available" for complaints?
The NHTSA complaints API did not return data for Jeep Wrangler model years 2024, 2025, 2026 when queried for this page: the request itself failed upstream instead of the count genuinely being zero. Recall counts for those years are unaffected; they come from a separate NHTSA endpoint that returned data for every year listed.
