About the brand

About Lamborghini.

Ferruccio Lamborghini was an Italian automobile designer and industrialist who created Lamborghini Trattori in 1948 and Automobili Lamborghini in 1964, a maker of high-end sports cars in Sant'Agata Bolognese. Born to grape farmers in Renazzo, within the municipality of Cento in the Emilia-Romagna region, his mechanical know-how led him to enter the business of tractor manufacturing in 1948, when he founded Lamborghini Trattori, which quickly became an important manufacturer of agricultural equipment in the midst of Italy's post-WWII economic boom.

Lineup
Ferruccio Lamborghini, already an established manufacturer of tractors, boilers and air conditioners, founded the car company in 1963 specifically to build a refined grand tourer that could compete with Ferrari, whose cars he reportedly found unrefined for road use. The first series-production model, the 350 GT, was a conventional two-seat GT, but the 1966 Miura broke from that formula with a rear mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout that became the template for nearly every supercar since, Lamborghini included. The company nearly didn't survive to build on that legacy: Ferruccio sold his stake in 1972 and 1974, and Lamborghini went bankrupt in 1978 before being rescued by new ownership. Today's lineup keeps the mid-engine supercar tradition alive through the Huracán's successor and the flagship Revuelto, a hybrid V12, while the Urus SUV — a major departure when it launched in 2018 — now outsells Lamborghini's sports cars and has become the brand's volume model, helping fund the low-volume, high-margin supercars that remain the brand's identity. Lamborghini has also built limited-edition track-only and hypercar specials, such as the Sián and Countach LPI 800-4, that revive historic nameplates on modern hybrid platforms.
Legacy
All of Ferruccio Lamborghini's companies continue to operate today in one form or another. His son, Tonino, designs a collection of clothing and accessories under the Tonino Lamborghini brand, as well as designing the Town Life, an electric microcar which was revealed at the Bologna Motor Show in 1999.
