2025 Mazda Mazda3

The 2025 Mazda3 adds an entry-level 2.5 S hatchback, new in-car technology and a Carbon Edition with standard all-wheel drive on the 191-horsepower engine. What changed on the 2025 Mazda3

Mazda (opens in a new tab) says the standard Mazda3 2.5 S uses a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter making 191 horsepower and 186 pound-feet on regular or premium fuel, with new in-car technology and hatchback models gaining an entry-level 2.5 S package for wider appeal. Modern Mazda (opens in a new tab) says the most significant changes from 2024 are added standard features and a new entry-level hatchback trim, and Motor Illustrated (opens in a new tab) adds that the GT gains Alexa built-in and Mazda Online Navigation and that the alloy wheel finish changes from Light Gray High Lustre to Silver Metallic.

Car and Driver (opens in a new tab) says the Carbon Edition is offered with the base, non-turbocharged engine this year with standard all-wheel drive, Polymetal Gray paint, 18-inch black wheels and a red leather interior, and lists an 8.8-inch infotainment display as standard with a 10.3-inch touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard on Turbo models. The Mazda3 is the fourth generation, introduced for 2020.

Recalls and problems owners report

NHTSA lists one recall campaign for the 2025 Mazda3, 25V357000, covering 2024 and 2025 Mazda3 and CX-30 vehicles whose Sophisticated Air Bag Sensor units may set an error code and deactivate the air bags because of a low battery condition; dealers reprogram the unit with improved software or replace it. Owners have filed 8 complaints with NHTSA: unknown or other and forward collision avoidance with 2 each, and vehicle speed control, seat belts, suspension and wheels with 1 each. Consumer Reports (opens in a new tab) rates the 2025 Mazda3 more reliable than other cars from the same model year and counts the one recall.

2025 Mazda3 against the Civic, Corolla and Impreza

EPA rates the 2025 Mazda3 at 26 to 31 mpg combined and $2,000 to $2,400 a year in fuel. The 2025 Honda Civic rates 24 to 49 at $1,250 to $3,250, the Toyota Corolla 22 to 50 at $1,250 to $3,500 and the Subaru Impreza 29 to 30 at $2,100 to $2,150, sold only with all-wheel drive. On EPA figures the Mazda3 has no hybrid, so the Civic and Corolla hybrids are far more efficient, while its gasoline models sit at the efficient end of the gasoline compacts.

Record summary

What to know first

Non-turbo Mazda3 trims use a 191-horsepower 2.5L engine; the two turbo trims step up to 227 hp on regular fuel or 250 hp on premium.

Model-year note

The turbo's output is fuel-dependent: 227 hp requires only regular fuel, while the 250 hp figure requires premium, so 250 hp is not a flat spec.
