What changed on the 2022 Tesla Model Y
Car and Driver (opens in a new tab) says the Standard Range entry-level Model Y was discontinued for 2022, making the Long Range the de facto base model, and adds that where the Model 3 nails its mission with handling that dances and impressive range, the 2022 Model Y feels like a lazy effort to appeal to the SUV-buying public. MotoMetrics (opens in a new tab) adds that deliveries from Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg in Germany started in March 2022. The EPA rates the 2022 Model Y at 111 to 129 MPGe combined at $600 to $700 a year in electricity on fueleconomy.gov (opens in a new tab), against 95 to 107 MPGe for the Volkswagen ID.4 and 82 to 103 for the Ford Mustang Mach-E.
Recalls on the 2022 Model Y
NHTSA lists 20 recalls on the model year. 21V912 covers 2020 to 2022 Model Y vehicles where the front and rear suspension knuckles may fracture, causing the suspension links to separate. 22V050 covers a software error that may trap refrigerant in the evaporator and reduce defrosting performance, so the car fails the federal defrost standard. 22V702 covers a window automatic reversal system that may not react correctly after detecting an obstruction. 22V037 covers the 'rolling stop' functionality offered with the driver-assist software, 22V045 an audible chime that may not activate, and 22V063 and 22V235 the Boombox function that allows sounds to be played outside the car. 22V296 covers a display function on certain firmware releases. Most of the software campaigns are fixed over the air, but the knuckle recall is a physical repair, so confirm it on the VIN. Clunkered (opens in a new tab) lists the model year's complaints and recalls together.
