Toyota Sienna
Car and Driver rates the Sienna Hybrid 9.5/10 as an Editors' Choice, ranking it #1 in Best Minivans, saying with lounge-like seating for up to eight, an available center-console fridge, and a built-in vacuum on upper trims, it aims to be almost like a mobile home, rated by the EPA as the efficiency leader in its class, beating out stiff competition like the Honda Odyssey and Kia Carnival, with its fuel-sipping hybrid powertrain available in front- or all-wheel drive. MotorTrend rates the Sienna 9.2/10 as #2 in Best Minivans, saying for all the space of the largest SUVs but at a more manageable sticker price, there's no beating a minivan, and Toyota has one of the best, hauling families since the late 1990s, with a comfortable, well-tuned suspension and solid hybrid efficiency, though under part throttle the engine sounds thrashy and unrefined, and rivals from Honda and Chrysler deliver more grunt.

Background and safety record
What public sources say about the Toyota Sienna.
The Toyota Sienna is a minivan manufactured and marketed by Toyota primarily for the North American market. It is named for the Italian city of Siena, in the region of Tuscany. It replaced the first generation Previa van, and the Toyota Camry wagon in 1997 (for the 1998 model year) with a more conventional front-wheel drive layout and shares a heavily revised platform with the Camry.
- Safety
- This generation was noteworthy for its impressive safety content as one of the few minivans at the time to offer options including front seat-mounted side torso airbags and Vehicle Stability Control. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rated the Sienna "Good" in all six frontal crash test measures, which was far better than the Previa.

Q01Is there a best year to buy a Toyota Sienna?
Recall count alone can't answer that: it says nothing about a specific vehicle's price, mileage, accident history or maintenance record. What federal data can say: 2020 carried fewer recalls than this model's own average, while 2017 carried more. See the model-year table on this page for the exact counts and what they cover.
Q02Which Toyota Sienna model years should I watch for recalls?
The 2017 Toyota Sienna has 10 federal recalls on file, most commonly affecting brakes, equipment, fuel system. Always confirm the open/completed status of every campaign for the specific VIN: a recall on this list may already be repaired on the vehicle in front of you.
Q03Which Toyota Sienna model years have the cleanest federal recall record?
The 2020 Toyota Sienna has 2 recalls on file: below this model's own average of 6.2. A shorter list on file as of this page's data pull is not a guarantee against a future recall.
Q04What are common recall-related problems on the Toyota Sienna by model year?
2020: fuel system, steering. 2019: fuel system, equipment, airbags, steering. 2018: fuel system, brakes, steering, equipment. 2017: brakes, equipment, fuel system, steering. 2016: brakes, structure, seat belts, Equipment Adaptive/Mobility. 2015: structure, brakes, airbags.
