2024 Audi A4

MotorTrend (opens in a new tab) says the 2024 A4 gains several technology updates, with adaptive cruise control, a lane-keeping system and more advanced parking sensors newly standard on every trim, and notes this generation first went on sale in the U.S. for 2017 and was refreshed for 2020. Car and Driver (opens in a new tab) adds a heated steering wheel to that list, remote engine start through the myAudi app on every model except the base A4 40, and a navigation package on Premium Plus that now includes traffic-sign recognition tied into the adaptive cruise control.

CarsFrenzy (opens in a new tab) lists the standard kit as leather upholstery, heated power front seats, three-zone climate control, a power sunroof and a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Car and Driver gives rear-seat legroom as 35.7 inches and credits the standard sunroof with an airy feel. MotorTrend's fuel-economy estimates are 26 city and 35 highway for the A4 40, and Car and Driver lists 24/32 for the more powerful A4 45, which returned 33 mpg on its 75-mph highway test.

NHTSA lists no recall campaigns for the 2024 A4 across the sedan and Allroad, and six owner complaints, two each about tires and engine and one each about the electrical system, air bags, vehicle speed control and fuel system. ProblemsByVin (opens in a new tab) declines to give a verdict on such a small sample, and Autojunket (opens in a new tab) characterises the A4 as trading some of the reliability of Japanese luxury brands for occasional German quirks and higher long-term maintenance costs, with complex electrical problems as the car ages.

Kelley Blue Book (opens in a new tab) lists used 2024 A4 prices from $23,000 for the 40 TFSI Premium sedan to $30,000 for the S line 45 TFSI Prestige sedan when bought from a dealership, depending on equipment, mileage and condition. The A4 40 is the economical choice and the 45 trades about 2 mpg for noticeably more power.

EPA rates the 2024 A4 at 26 to 30 mpg combined and $2,600 to $3,000 a year in fuel, all with all-wheel drive. The 2024 BMW 3 Series rates 26 to 29 at $2,650 to $3,000, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class 23 to 30 at $2,600 to $3,350, the Genesis G70 23 to 24 at $3,250 to $3,350, the Volvo S60 28 to 31 at $2,500 to $2,750 and the Acura TLX 21 to 25 at $3,100 to $3,700. On EPA figures the A4 is level with its German rivals and is sold only with all-wheel drive, and the Volvo S60 is the most efficient of the group.
