Cadillac LYRIQ

The Cadillac Lyriq is GM's electric luxury crossover, on sale since the 2023 model year and built at Spring Hill, Tennessee. NHTSA data shows recalls falling from 7 for the 2023 and 6 for the 2024 to 3 for the 2025, with the 2024 the year with the most owner complaints (113). The 2026 Lyriq is rated 307 to 314 miles and starts at about $61,000 on Kelley Blue Book's figures.

What the Lyriq is and who buys it

Wikipedia (opens in a new tab) lists the Lyriq as a mid-size luxury crossover SUV from Cadillac, part of General Motors, sold since the 2023 model year on the BEV3 platform with a 121.8-inch wheelbase, assembled in Spring Hill, Tennessee, and in China. It says CEO Mary Barra presented details of the crossover at the 2019 North American International Auto Show, and that the name follows Cadillac's concept vehicles Evoq, Provoq and Celestiq, all ending in "q". The target buyer is a luxury shopper who wants American styling and range without the European price: AutoEdgeView (opens in a new tab) says a starting price undercuts German rivals by $10,000 or more, with a 102-kWh usable battery and range up to 314 miles.

Strengths and weaknesses

EV Care's buyer's verdict (opens in a new tab) lists three strengths, including a 33-inch 9K display it calls best in class, and Super Cruise hands-free driving that it calls genuinely good, against a weakness in modest 190 kW DC charging compared with 800-volt rivals. AutoEdgeView adds that on a 350 kW station the Lyriq can add about 76 miles in 10 minutes and charge 10 to 80 percent in roughly 33 minutes, and that the EPA rates the 2026 Lyriq at 314 miles for the rear-wheel-drive Luxury trim and 307 for the all-wheel-drive Sport and Luxury trims. On efficiency, the EPA's range for the 2026 is 80 to 92 MPGe at $850 to $950 a year in electricity.

Best and worst Lyriq model years

Only four model years exist, 2023 to 2026, and the federal record improves over them. The 2023 Lyriq has 7 recalls and 24 complaints, naming electrical system, seat belts, brakes and suspension. The 2024 has 6 recalls and 113 complaints, the most of any year, naming seat belts, electrical system, brakes and suspension. The 2025 has 3 recalls and 18 complaints, and the 2026 one recall so far. VinSpectorAI (opens in a new tab) analyzed the same four years using NHTSA data and also names the 2024 the worst model year by complaints, with 113. The practical reading is that a 2025 or 2026 Lyriq is the cleaner buy, and any 2023 or 2024 should have its recall completions confirmed by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

What it costs

Kelley Blue Book's base prices for the 2026 Lyriq start at $60,995 for the Luxury and $61,495 for the Sport, rising through the Premium trims to about $69,000. For a comparison of the class, see the small SUV comparison and, for a specific model year, open the Lyriq's 2026 page.

Background and safety record

What public sources say about the Cadillac LYRIQ.

The Cadillac Lyriq is a battery electric mid-size luxury crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by the Cadillac division of General Motors. As Cadillac's first fully electric vehicle, and the first GM production vehicle using the BEV3 platform, the Lyriq introduces a new version of GM's Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system.

Sales
In 2024, the Lyriq became the best-selling luxury midsize electric SUV in the United States.
Specifications
At debut, the Cadillac Lyriq was offered with a single motor driving the rear wheels, while dual motor all-wheel drive models became available for the 2024 model year. In both configurations, synchronous AC motors with permanent magnets and bar wound stator is used.
Chassis
The Lyriq was the first vehicle built upon GM's third generation BEV platform called BEV3. It is a unibody chassis with a skateboard style powertrain, where the battery is a flat shape that sits underneath the floor of the vehicle. All models have five-link multilink suspension paired with passively frequency sensitive hydraulic dampers on both the front and rear axles.

Method: recall counts and their affected components come from the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation: Recalls API, queried by exact make, model and model year. Complaint counts come from the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation: Complaints API, same query pattern. Data pulled 2026-09-04.

Known gap: the NHTSA complaints API did not return data for Cadillac LYRIQ model year 2026 when queried for this page: the request itself failed upstream, not returning a genuine zero. Those years are marked "not available" above instead of shown as clean; recall counts for those years are unaffected and come from the separate recalls API, which returned data for every year listed.

Check open recalls by VIN for one particular vehicle.

Q01Is there a best year to buy a Cadillac LYRIQ?

Recall count alone can't answer that: it says nothing about a specific vehicle's price, mileage, accident history or maintenance record. What federal data can say: 2026 carried fewer recalls than this model's own average, while 2023 carried more. See the model-year table on this page for the exact counts and what they cover.

Q02Which Cadillac LYRIQ model years should I watch for recalls?

The 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ has 7 federal recalls on file, most commonly affecting electrical system, seat belts, brakes. Always confirm the open/completed status of every campaign for the specific VIN: a recall on this list may already be repaired on the vehicle in front of you.

Q03Which Cadillac LYRIQ model years have the cleanest federal recall record?

The 2026 Cadillac LYRIQ has 1 recall on file: below this model's own average of 4.3. A shorter list on file as of this page's data pull is not a guarantee against a future recall.

Q04What are common recall-related problems on the Cadillac LYRIQ by model year?

2026: equipment. 2025: seats, suspension, electrical system. 2024: seat belts, electrical system, brakes, suspension. 2023: electrical system, seat belts, brakes, suspension.

Q05Why do some Cadillac LYRIQ model years show "not available" for complaints?

The NHTSA complaints API did not return data for Cadillac LYRIQ model year 2026 when queried for this page: the request itself failed upstream instead of the count genuinely being zero. Recall counts for those years are unaffected; they come from a separate NHTSA endpoint that returned data for every year listed.
