Lucid Air

BitsFromBytes says the Lucid Air Grand Touring's 512-mile EPA range is the longest of any electric sedan sold in America, by 112 miles according to The Weekly Driver's verified comparison, and that Recharged's late-2025 long-term review noted much faster boot times, more stable navigation, and fewer hard crashes of the infotainment stack, with Lucid's OTA update track record legitimately impressive by 2026 since it can push software changes to the entire fleet overnight. MotorTrend says the 2026 Lucid Air combines groundbreaking technology, stunning performance, and industry-leading range, setting a new standard for luxury electric sedans, and that under the right circumstances, Lucid says the Air can recover up to 200 miles of range in roughly 12 minutes. Electric Car Wiki says the 2026 Lucid Air is expected to be an evolution of Lucid's flagship luxury EV sedan, building on the brand's core strengths of record-beating efficiency, long-range capability, and a minimalist, tech-forward cabin.

Background and safety record

What public sources say about the Lucid Air.

The Lucid Air is a battery electric four-door luxury sedan produced by Lucid Motors. The vehicle was announced in December 2016 and sales began in 2021 as the brand's first car. It has been positively reviewed by critics and is known for its range and performance capabilities.

Powertrain
In February 2020, Lucid announced a partnership with LG Chem through which the latter company would provide battery cells for the Air sedan through 2023. On December 13, 2022, Panasonic and Lucid announced they had entered into multi-year agreements to supply batteries for Lucid's award-winning luxury electric vehicle.
Safety
The Air was chosen as one of the Top 10 Tech Cars by the IEEE in 2018 and is the 2022 Motor Trend Car of the Year. Also in 2022, the Air achieved the record for Longest Range and Fastest Charging Speed of any vehicle ever tested by Car and Driver.
Range
The Dream Edition R's EPA range is up to 520 miles (840 km), the longest range EV rated by the EPA.
Aerodynamics
The pre-production Air has a drag coefficient of Cd=0.21. Later reporting from Motor Trend gives it as Cd=0.20 for the production version. Rawlinson claims the Air has less drag than the Mercedes-Benz EQS due to a smaller frontal area.
Features
Other standard features include "LED headlights, all the necessary hardware for autonomous driving, four high resolution screens (three of which are touch sensitive), 19-inch alloy wheels, 10-speaker sound system, 12-way power adjustment for the front seats with heating, front and rear trunk with a total luggage space of around 900 liters (32 cu ft), and over-the-air software updates." The Air can be optioned as a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain producing up to 1,111 horsepower (828 kW) for the top of the range Air Dream Edition P.

Recent recalls (9 campaigns across the latest model years)

  • August 2026, Electrical System:Software. Lucid USA, Inc. (Lucid) is recalling certain 2022-2026 Air vehicles. The exterior lighting circuit may have insufficient overcurrent protection, allowing the circuit to overheat. Consequence: An overheated circuit increases the risk of a fire. A loss of the center brake light or front lights can also decrease visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • May 2026, Electrical System:Propulsion System:Inverter. Lucid USA, Inc. (Lucid) is recalling certain 2024-2025 Air vehicles equipped with rear-wheel drive. The Gen 4 inverter may experience internal friction and become damaged, causing a loss of drive power. Consequence: A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.
  • March 2026, Power Train:Driveline:Driveshaft. Lucid USA, Inc. (Lucid) is recalling certain 2024-2026 Air vehicles equipped with Pure Rear-Wheel Drive. Improperly secured bolts may allow the half-shaft to disconnect from the drive unit. Consequence: A disconnected half shaft can result in a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.

Owners filed 14 complaints with NHTSA for the 2025 Lucid Air, most often about power train (4), forward collision avoidance (4), unknown or other (3).

Method: recall counts and their affected components come from the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation: Recalls API, queried by exact make, model and model year. Complaint counts come from the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation: Complaints API, same query pattern. Data pulled 2026-09-04.

Known gap: the NHTSA complaints API did not return data for Lucid Air model year 2026 when queried for this page: the request itself failed upstream, not returning a genuine zero. Those years are marked "not available" above instead of shown as clean; recall counts for those years are unaffected and come from the separate recalls API, which returned data for every year listed.

Check open recalls by VIN for one particular vehicle.

Q01Is there a best year to buy a Lucid Air?

Federal recall records don't single out a best Lucid Air model year: recall counts across the 5 published model years checked here stay within a normal range of this nameplate's own average (about 9.4 recalls per year), with no year standing out as notably higher or lower. Recall count is one input, not a purchase verdict. It says nothing about a specific vehicle's price, mileage, accident history or maintenance record.

Q02What are common recall-related problems on the Lucid Air by model year?

2026: powertrain, backup camera, electrical system. 2025: electrical system, powertrain, backup camera. 2024: electrical system, powertrain, backup camera, forward collision system. 2023: electrical system, backup camera, visibility/wipers, seats. 2022: electrical system, backup camera, visibility/wipers, suspension.

Q03Why do some Lucid Air model years show "not available" for complaints?

The NHTSA complaints API did not return data for Lucid Air model year 2026 when queried for this page: the request itself failed upstream instead of the count genuinely being zero. Recall counts for those years are unaffected; they come from a separate NHTSA endpoint that returned data for every year listed.
