What changed on the 2027 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
Car and Driver's report on the refresh (opens in a new tab) describes a new front end with revised headlights joined to black trim around a larger grille, echoing the refreshed S-Class, and the three-pointed-star motif in both headlights and taillights. There is a new 18-inch wheel design and two new 19-inch AMG wheel options, plus two new colors, Miami Silver Metallic and Moody Sky Grey Metallic. Inside, an 11.9-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster carry over, but the MB.OS software is upgraded and can install over-the-air updates for the entire vehicle.
Mechanically the engine output remains 255 hp and 295 lb-ft, but a new boost function adds 27 hp for 20 seconds. The integrated starter-generator can add 23 hp and 151 lb-ft at lower engine speeds, and the 48-volt system runs a new electric auxiliary compressor that helps the turbocharger respond in milliseconds. Car and Driver's overview (opens in a new tab) says the revised look may turn out to be controversial and that it will have to wait to drive the car to see whether the revised suspension tuning delivers meaningful improvement.
Recalls and reliability
NHTSA has no entries for the 2027 model year yet. The recall to know about is 26V281, which covers 2024 to 2026 AMG GT, C-Class, E-Class, SL, CLE and GLC vehicles: the infotainment control unit may reset while the vehicle is in motion and cause the instrument panel display to go blank. Since the 2027's headline change is a software upgrade, ask a dealer which infotainment software revision the car carries and whether the campaign applies. Engine Patrol (opens in a new tab) collects older C-Class problems, including cracked pistons on 2015 and 2016 models and a few complaints of air bags not deploying on 2017 and later cars, which it says the low volume of reports suggests is not a particular concern.
2027 C-Class against the Genesis G70 and BMW 2 Series
The 2027 C-Class is rated 27 to 29 mpg combined with fuel costs of $2,750 to $2,950 a year on fueleconomy.gov (opens in a new tab). The 2027 Genesis G70 rates 23 to 24 mpg ($3,300 to $3,450), so the C-Class costs about $450 to $500 a year less to fuel, and the BMW 2 Series rates 27 to 31 mpg ($2,550 to $2,950), close to the C-Class at the low end and cheaper at the top.
