2022 Porsche Taycan

Porsche (opens in a new tab) says the Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo start the new model year in September with extensive changes: seamless smartphone connectivity that now includes Android Auto deeply integrated into the Porsche Communication Management system, Remote Park Assist for the first time on the Taycan, and, through the Turbo Charging Planner, a high-voltage battery that can now be heated to a slightly higher temperature than before, improving day-to-day range. It adds Paint to Sample and Paint to Sample Plus beside 17 standard colors, the first allowing 65 additional colors at present.

TaycanForum (opens in a new tab) collects owner discussion of the changes, including standard wired Android Auto. EPA rates the 2022 Taycan at 70 to 83 MPGe with 199 to 246 miles of range and $900 to $1,100 a year in fuel.

NHTSA lists 12 recall campaigns for the 2022 Taycan, and five share one cause: 23V840000, 24V215000, 24V217000, 24V731000 and 24V732000 cover a high-voltage battery that may short-circuit within the battery modules, with remedies ranging from replacing modules to limiting charge to 80 percent until a fix is ready and installing advanced diagnostic software. Others include 24V455000, front brake hoses that can crack and leak fluid, 25V221000, an occupant classification error that may deactivate the front passenger air bag, 23V841000, home outlets that may overheat when charging at 100 percent on a 220/240-volt industrial plug, and several display and seat-belt-warning software campaigns.

Owners have filed 79 complaints with NHTSA: electrical system with 36, power train with 18, unknown or other with 13, engine with 9, fuel and propulsion system with 8 and visibility with 7.

Kelley Blue Book (opens in a new tab) lists used 2022 Taycan prices from $53,300 for the base sedan to $98,500 for the Turbo S at a dealership, with trade-in values of about $45,400 to $95,800 and private-party values of about $51,400 to $98,400 across body styles and trims.

EPA rates the 2022 Taycan at 70 to 83 MPGe with 199 to 246 miles at $900 to $1,100 a year. The 2022 Tesla Model S rates 101 to 120 MPGe with 348 to 405 miles at $650 to $750 and the Lucid Air 111 to 131 MPGe with 451 to 520 miles at $600 to $700. On EPA figures both rivals are far more efficient and go roughly 1.5 to 2 times as far on a charge.
