ModelAverage recalls per model-yearTotal recalls on fileModel years covered
Rolls-Royce Cullinan1.3108
Rolls-Royce Phantom1.3108
Rolls-Royce Ghost1.276

Method: each model’s average is computed from the same NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation: Recalls API model-year data shown on that model’s own hub, queried by exact make, model and model year. Data pulled 2026-09-04. Models with fewer than 3 published model years of recall data are excluded from this comparison.

About the brand

About Rolls-Royce.

Rolls-Royce Motors was a British luxury car manufacturer, created in 1973 during the de-merger of the Rolls-Royce automotive business from the nationalised Rolls-Royce Limited. It produced luxury cars under the Rolls-Royce and Bentley brands. Vickers acquired the company in 1980 and sold it to Volkswagen in 1998.

History
The original Rolls-Royce Limited had been nationalised in 1971 due to the financial collapse of the company, caused in part by the development of the RB211 jet engine. In 1973, the British government sold the Rolls-Royce car business to allow nationalised parent Rolls-Royce (1971) Limited to concentrate on jet engine manufacture. In 1980, Rolls-Royce Motors was acquired by Vickers.
Lineup
Modern Rolls-Royce is the product of an unusual corporate split: when the historic Rolls-Royce Motors business (which had built both Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars) was sold in 1998, BMW licensed the Rolls-Royce name and logo along with the rights to the Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament and the brand's signature grille shape from Volkswagen, while Volkswagen kept the actual factory and workforce and used them to continue building cars under the Bentley name instead. BMW's Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, formed in 1998 and building cars under the Rolls-Royce name since 2003, has no direct engineering lineage to pre-2003 Rolls-Royces beyond briefly supplying components; Bentley, not Rolls-Royce, is the true continuation of the original company. The current lineup runs the Phantom, the flagship four-door saloon offered in two wheelbase lengths since 2003, the smaller Ghost saloon, the Cullinan SUV, and the Spectre coupe, Rolls-Royce's first electric car. Every Rolls-Royce is still extensively hand-built and heavily customized to individual owner specification, called "Bespoke" commissioning, which remains central to the brand's identity regardless of which model a customer chooses.
