What the 2015 Corvette offers

MotorTrend (opens in a new tab) says the Corvette Z06 coupe and convertible return with a new 6.2-liter supercharged V8 making 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, available with the Z07 performance package, while the rest of the 2015 line uses a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 producing 455 hp and 460 lb-ft, or 460 hp and 465 lb-ft with the performance exhaust. It says the 2015 offers performance that rivals sports cars costing more than double its $55,995 starting price. On the EPA's ratings the 2015 Corvette returns 16 to 21 mpg combined at $3,700 to $4,850 a year in fuel on fueleconomy.gov (opens in a new tab), against 17 to 23 mpg and $3,350 to $4,550 for the 2015 Porsche 911.

Recalls and complaints

NHTSA lists five recalls on the 2015 Corvette, and three apply only to cars built in short 2014 windows. 14V570 covers driver frontal air bags on cars manufactured August 20 to 27, 2014, 14V568 covers a parking brake on cars built August 20 to September 4, 2014, and 15V031 covers a suspension toe link outer fastener on cars built September 26 to October 2, 2014. 16V651 and 17V437 are air bag campaigns shared with many GM models. Because the first three depend on build date, the VIN check at nhtsa.gov/recalls answers whether a specific car is included.

NHTSA holds 65 complaints on the 2015 Corvette: power train 18, wheels 12, fuel and propulsion 8, engine 8, electrical system 5 and visibility 5. ProblemsByVin (opens in a new tab) counts 64 and quotes an owner about a problem with the C7's center screen that shows the backup camera. Kelley Blue Book (opens in a new tab) rates a 2015 with 36,000 to 48,000 miles as a medium risk of major repair.
