What changed on the 2021 Honda HR-V
Honda's dealer guide (opens in a new tab) says the biggest news for 2021 involves the wheels on most trims: the Sport gets black-painted 18-inch alloys, the Touring new 17-inch machine-finished alloys with black-painted inserts, and the EX and EX-L the 17-inch alloys with gloss shark-gray inserts that appeared on the 2020 Touring. Carvana (opens in a new tab) calls it a very light late-cycle update in the first generation, and Car and Driver (opens in a new tab) adds new rear window tint on the Sport and a 7.0-inch touchscreen standard on all but the base LX.
Kelley Blue Book (opens in a new tab) puts used 2021 HR-Vs at $17,050 for the LX to $22,300 for the Touring at a dealership, and rates fuel economy at 27/31 to 28/34 mpg city and highway. EPA rates the 2021 HR-V at 28 to 30 mpg combined and $2,100 to $2,250 a year in fuel, with front- or all-wheel drive.
Recalls and problems owners report
NHTSA lists four recall campaigns for the 2021 HR-V. 23V046000 and 24V384000 cover a design error in the audio display power circuit that may keep the rearview camera image from displaying when the engine is started with a key, and 24V064000 and 26V332000 cover a front passenger seat weight sensor that may crack and short circuit, failing to suppress the air bag as intended.
Owners have filed 63 complaints with NHTSA: air bags with 21, electrical system with 15, unknown or other with 9, forward collision avoidance with 7, and service brakes and power train with 5 each. CarComplaints (opens in a new tab) tracks the year's problems by category, and ProblemsByVin (opens in a new tab) keeps a record.
