About the brand

About INEOS Automotive.

Ineos Automotive Ltd is a British manufacturer of off-road vehicles based in London, operating since 2016. It belongs to the multinational conglomerate Ineos.

History
Ineos Automotive Ltd was founded by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, chairman of the multinational chemicals company Ineos. Ratcliffe came up with the idea of building a replacement for his Land Rover Defender and approached Jaguar Land Rover to buy the tooling to continue production after the original model ceased at Solihull after 67 years in January 2016, but the firm declined. Ratcliffe later decided to initiate a project to design and build a similar vehicle under the codename Projekt Grenadier.
Lineup
Ineos Automotive exists because of one man's attachment to a discontinued truck: chemicals billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe wanted to replace his own Land Rover Defender after Jaguar Land Rover ended the original model's 67-year production run at Solihull in January 2016, and when JLR declined to sell him the tooling to keep building it, he started his own company to build a similar vehicle instead, under the codename "Projekt Grenadier" — named after the London pub where the idea was hatched. Development brought in Magna Steyr for engineering and BMW for engines, and after an initial plan to build in Wales fell through, Ineos ended up producing the Grenadier at a former Smart factory in Hambach, France, bought from Daimler, with production starting in October 2022. The current lineup is just two vehicles built on the same body-on-frame platform: the Grenadier, a traditional off-road wagon deliberately styled after the old Defender, and the Grenadier Quartermaster, a pickup-truck version of the same vehicle. Ineos has said it is now developing alternative powertrains to expand beyond that two-model range.
