2024 Rivian R1S

MotorTrend (opens in a new tab) says Kneel mode was added, letting the R1S drop 10 inches from its standard ride height on the air suspension for easier loading, and that Rivian redesigned the Drive Modes app with controls closer to the driver and swipe gesturing. It lists the Standard pack at 260 miles of range, the Large pack at 352 and the Max pack at 400, and recommends keeping options light so the price does not balloon. A MotorTrend lineup report (opens in a new tab) adds a Dual-Motor Performance variant with a Sport mode that raises output from the standard 533 hp and 610 lb-ft to 665 hp and 829 lb-ft.

EPA rates the 2024 R1S at 63 to 82 MPGe combined, 255 to 400 miles of range and $900 to $1,200 a year in electricity, with all-wheel or part-time four-wheel drive. Kelley Blue Book (opens in a new tab) estimates trade-in values of about $53,100 to $69,300 and private-party values of about $56,500 to $70,800.

NHTSA lists seven recall campaigns for the 2024 R1S. 25V370000 covers front seat belt D-ring bolts that may not have been properly installed, and 26V009000 covers second-row seat belt retractor bolts that may be improperly tightened, with Rivian inspecting and tightening them. 26V003000 covers a rear toe link that may have been reassembled incorrectly during service, fixed by replacing the rear toe link bolts. The others cover a missing dashboard air bag warning label, improperly aimed headlights, damaged pillar trim attachment clips and a rearview camera software fault.

Owners have filed 17 complaints with NHTSA: suspension with 5, and vehicle speed control, unknown or other and forward collision avoidance with 3 each. ProblemsByVin (opens in a new tab) counts the same 7 recalls and 17 complaints.
