Q01Which Ford models have the most federal recalls?

Across the 10 Ford nameplates checked here, recall rates stay within a normal range of each other (about 11.5 recalls per model-year on average), with no single model standing out as notably higher or lower. Recall count is one input, not a purchase verdict.

About the brand

About Ford.

The Ford Motor Company (commonly known as Ford, sometimes abbreviated as FoMoCo) is an American multinational automobile manufacturer headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan, United States. It was founded by Henry Ford and incorporated on June 16, 1903. The company sells automobiles and commercial vehicles under the Ford brand, and luxury cars under its Lincoln brand.

History
The Henry Ford Company was Henry Ford's first attempt at a car manufacturing company and was established on November 3, 1901. This became the Cadillac Motor Company on August 22, 1902, after Ford left with the rights to his name. In 1903, the Ford Motor Company was launched in a converted factory, with $28,000, equivalent to $1,003,000 in 2025, in cash from twelve investors, most notably John and Horace Dodge, who later founded the Dodge Brothers Motor Vehicle Company.
Ownership
Ford is mainly owned by institutional investors, who own around 60% of shares. The largest shareholders in December 2023 were: The Vanguard Group (8.71%) BlackRock (7.20%) State Street Corporation (4.46%) Newport Trust (3.98%) Charles Schwab Corporation (2.25%) Geode Capital Management (1.94%) Fisher Investments (1.52%) Morgan Stanley (1.31%) Norges Bank (1.00%) Northern Trust (0.94%)
Lineup
Ford's F-Series has been the backbone of the company's North American lineup since the 1940s, and the modern F-150 remains the best-selling vehicle in the U.S. by a wide margin; Ford also once built a separate line of medium- and heavy-duty trucks (the L-Series "Louisville Line," Cargo and Aeromax) before selling that business to Freightliner's parent Daimler in 1996, which spun the line off as the short-lived Sterling truck brand. Ford's current passenger lineup separates trucks and SUVs from cars: the F-150, Ranger, and Maverick cover full-size, midsize, and compact pickups; the Bronco and Bronco Sport lead an off-road-focused SUV push alongside the more conventional Escape and Explorer; and the Expedition anchors the full-size SUV range. The Mustang is Ford's sole remaining traditional car nameplate in the U.S. after the brand discontinued its sedans (Fusion, Taurus, Fiesta, Focus) in the late 2010s to concentrate on trucks and SUVs, a strategy shift that was unusually aggressive compared with other mainstream brands. Ford has layered an EV lineup on top of that structure rather than replacing it, including the Mustang Mach-E crossover and the F-150 Lightning, an electric version of its top-selling pickup, keeping the F-150 and Mustang names as an anchor for both the gas and electric sides of the brand.
Environmental initiatives
Flexible fuel vehicles are designed to operate smoothly using a wide range of available ethanol fuel mixtures—from pure gasoline to bioethanol-gasoline blends such as E85 (85% ethanol and 15% gasoline) or E100 (neat hydrous ethanol) in Brazil.
