What changed on the 2017 Ford Expedition
Carvana (opens in a new tab) calls the 2017 Expedition mostly a carryover, the final year of the third generation before the 2018 redesign, with the main change limited to the Platinum trim, whose adaptive suspension and 22-inch polished wheels became standard. Car and Driver (opens in a new tab) lists new continuously controlled dampers and 22-inch polished wheels on the Platinum, and a new Limited Appearance Package with dark accents and Magnetic-painted 20-inch wheels and grille, and notes the standard 119-inch wheelbase model competes with the Tahoe while the 131-inch Expedition Max goes against the Suburban.
Kelley Blue Book (opens in a new tab) puts used 2017 Expeditions at $9,950 for the XL to $17,800 for the King Ranch at a dealership, and rates fuel economy at 15/20 to 15/21 mpg city and highway. EPA rates the 2017 Expedition at 16 to 18 mpg combined and $3,450 to $3,900 a year in fuel, with rear- or four-wheel drive.
Recalls and problems owners report
NHTSA lists four recall campaigns for the 2017 Expedition. 22V150000 and 25V236000 cover a brake master cylinder that may allow brake fluid to leak from the front wheel circuit into the brake booster, 22V648000 covers 2015 to 2017 Expedition and Navigator models whose front blower motor behind the glove box may fail, and 25V572000 is a rearview camera campaign covering several Ford and Lincoln models.
Owners have filed 357 complaints with NHTSA: electrical system with 92, service brakes with 78, power train with 51, unknown or other with 41, engine with 38 and hydraulic with 35. CarComplaints (opens in a new tab) tracks the year's problems by category, and Consumer Reports (opens in a new tab) keeps a reliability page.
